The craniosacral system consists of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Changes in tension or adhesions within this system can lead to a variety of sensory, motor and other neurological problems.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle manual treatment technique applied to these structures, which stimulates the body’s natural healing powers.
Craniosacral therapy can have a soothing and causal effect in cases of:
- Migraines and headaches
- Chronic neck and back pain
- Stress- and tension-related disorders
- Chronic fatigue
- Temporomandibular joint disorders
- Learning difficulties
- Vision problems
Craniosacral therapy is a holistic form of therapy in which the structural components of our body – namely bones, muscles, internal organs, the nervous system and connective tissue – are interconnected in a functional relationship. As long as this interaction functions properly, our body remains healthy. Traumatic events, such as falls, accidents, injuries that are not necessarily severe but are recurrent, serious infections, operations, difficult births, and also psychological trauma, can disrupt the balance between these systems in our body. The consequences are initially functional disorders in one or more of the body’s systems, manifesting as tension, pain, frequent joint blockages, and disturbances in the hormonal and/or autonomic nervous systems.
Craniosacral therapy therefore does not focus on individual symptoms, but seeks to address the range of symptoms as a whole. This requires a detailed medical history and a thorough manual examination to identify and release restrictions in the mobility of the organs, muscles, joints and connective tissue.
